Battle of The Local Weathermen's Blogs

Local weathermen, Rick Mechlenburg and Mike Hoffman have had an interesting exchange over the December 15th high temperature on their weather blogs.
  • First, Rick said(scroll down,) "In station W***'s defense, the computer models for all of last week were not going anywhere close to highs in the 50s."

  • Mike responded with, "It was also implied that we are lazy and just go with the computer numbers. I take offense to that."

  • Then Rick, referring to Mike, came back with, "by his own criteria, he was off by 18°. Confused? Me too!"
I enjoy watching both of these guys' forecasts. Regarding the "December 15th high temperature" debate though, I have to side with Rick. But I promise I did not leave any of the wacko comments on either blog!

Ike

I ran two miles through tropical depression Ike today. It was awesome! I finished the two miles within a few seconds of my best time, which was pretty good because my shoes were so wet it felt like I was running with bricks tied to my shoes and I think my drenched Cubs shirt added a few more pounds. I figured running heavy made for an extra good training session (and better than usual work out.)

This was maybe the perfect rain in which to run, lots of drops, steady, yet gentle. I saw some guys braving the elements out on the golf course while I was running. They both looked over at me, obviously having discussed "the guy who's crazier than they are." We exchanged a friendly wave.

When I got back, I laid down in the driveway, exhausted with my face to the sky and simply enjoyed the rain drops hitting me in the face.

When I was taking the girls to quiz practice tonight, we saw some high school aged boys getting ready to swim in the retention ponds by the NorthWood parking lot, pool noodles and all.

Cool is Not Cool

I check WNDU's 16 Day Outlook pretty much everyday in the winter and spring. It has shown an overall below-normal forecast for months now. So, I was sure that the second half of March would bring a pattern shift. Guess not. I finally gave up on waiting for warmer weather and broke out the dance mats on Tuesday. Kristi and I have played DDR three days in a row. The girls did get a little exercise outside today - chasing Kern Bough's dog around.
